As I am writing this, I sit in a classroom full of students sitting behind screens. Trolling through facebook pages, liking photos of their friends, making fun of people they don't like. Living two lives, talking to people online in which they never talk to in real life. Behind a screen the quiet shy kids turn into the outgoing talkative ones, you can be anyone you want to be.
Nobody knows what going outside and playing road hockey, or playing football in the park is. All they know is the latest EA sports games. Talking to friends has become texting them, wanting to hangout is posting on their facebook wall. I understand it is easier, but when will we not settle for the easy way? I am slowly watching all theese younger kids becoming more and more overweight, seeing as their tans fade for a few levels on the recent Call Of Duty game. I am watching as their handwriting gets less and less legible fearing that someday they will forget how to simply hand write and just type their whole lives.
Don't get me wrong, I use the computer probably more then I should. But the first chance I find to get out of the house I take it. I do not make up excuses to stay inside or stay home from school just so I can play online. I can actuallly take a break. I guess thats just the diffence between someone who grew up when the computer was just being polished. And someone who grew up behind a screen their whole lives. When I was a kid, my idea of having fun was meeting with some friends at my school and playing basketball, or playing road hockey on the street. I actually walked to a friends house to see if they were home or not, I did not have a cell phone until I was 15.
You can say I am ranting, but I am just emberassed of what this planet is becoming. A bunch of mindless drones, who will wear exactly what Hannah Montana wears, who will pay three times as much for the sneakers that Eminem has. Caring more about the lives of celeberitys then the lives of our parents, chosing NHL 12 over pond hockey with their friends.
I can honestly say, theese kids are " Losers " in my eyes.
Not losers as in having no friends and being a loner and a reject in school. But losers as in they are losing so much of their life. They develop no social skills, and nothing about what they need in the real world. All these kids are set up for failure.
If its true that screens are the walls that keep you in, then it looks like the world will be trapped inside for a long long time.
